Thailand offers 5-year income tax exemption for foreign actors

The government today approved a five-year income tax exemption for foreign movie stars who earn income from foreign films made in Thailand.

The ministers believe that more film crews need to be brought in and expect the film industry to bring in about 17.5 billion baht over these 5 years.

Ratchada says Thailand benefited greatly from foreign film crews between 2017 and 2021, generating an average annual income of around 3.5 billion baht. The kingdom earned over 5 billion baht from industry last year.

Prime Minister Ratchada Thanadirek says the government is willing to encourage Thailand as a filming location and hopes film investors will take advantage of the income tax exemption.

In the past, Thailand has offered several financial incentives to the film industry, including a cash rebate of 15 to 20 percent of the expenses film crews spend in Thailand. But in the past, foreign stars still had to pay personal income tax.
