UPDATE: Thailand’s first monkeypox case goes missing

Phuket Police have reported that a 27-year-old man who tested positive for monkeypox virus in Phuket has been missing since Wednesday, July 20 at 9:05 pm.

Despite the fact that the man escaped from a private hospital in Phuket where he initially had symptoms, he was actually staying at the Patong Princess Hotel when he went missing. On Wednesday at 9:30 pm, he put the hotel keys at the front desk and left. CCTV footage shows him leaving in a white car. His whereabouts are currently unknown.

The 27-year-old Nigerian developed symptoms on July 9. On July 16, he was taken to a private hospital in Phuket and told to self-isolate at his DCCondo apartment in Kathu. He received a positive test result two days later, on July 18.

On July 18, officials came to the man's apartment to pick him up and take him to the hospital for treatment, but he was not there. As the police later discovered, he checked into a hotel in the Patong area on July 18. He paid in cash and booked a stay for 2 nights.

On July 19, the man called the hospital and said that he would go for treatment in the evening. However, he never showed up at the hospital. On the evening of July 19 at 9:30 he left the hotel.

The police said that he may still be in Phuket, or may have already left. His whereabouts are unknown.
